The general requirements and responsibilities are as follows:Job Responsibilities:Perform all types of manual labor in and about the power plant including operating jack hammers, bobcats, and fork lifts; painting, cleaning, performing small scale short term repairs; landscaping, shoveling, excavating; pick up and/or drop off of supplies and equipment; install, maintain, repair and replace small equipment; plan and prioritize work so jobs can be completed in the most efficient and effective manner; is a member of the station's fire brigade or acts as station fire guide for outside fire departments; perform all activities in accordance with applicable health, safety, and environmental standards; perform all activities in a high quality manner to achieve best industry practice; perform general cleaning and housekeeping duties; interact with station personnel, contractors, and others to perform laborer functions; respond to overtime requests as needed; handle special assignments; and perform related work as required.Essential Functions: Perform labor involved in facility operation and maintenance. Maintain lawns including operation of lawn mowers, tractors and weed eaters; clean roofs, gutters, sewers, manholes and roadways; unload and handle material; replace light bulbs and lamps. Assist operation and maintenance personnel as required. Assist with repairs to fire lines, sewers and drains; clean debris from intake racks and screens; clean fly ash from boilers and breechings; unload bottom ash and fly ash into trucks. Shovel and vacuum clean coal at barge unloading docks, car dumpers, coal storage grounds and in coal plant buildings and conveyors; tie barges, involving fastening cables and barge lines; clean out coal bunkers and coal/ash cars. Lubricate equipment and track switches; assist others in the operation of coal and ash handling equipment. Clean boiler room equipment including boilers, super heaters, economizers, walls, tubes, burners and combustion chambers using picks, shovels, and other tools as required; install and operate portable pumps as required; remove slag and ash from boilers as directed; clean air ducts and fans; perform general boiler room cleaning such as sweeping, washing, dusting, and vacuum cleaning. Perform other duties such as repair parking lots; replace damaged ceiling tiles; operate scissor lift to facilitate lighting, window, and other building repairs; install, repair and replace signage; demolish small structures or other pieces of equipment; clean company vehicles. Participate in ongoing training to maintain and enhance skills required to perform all Laborer duties and assist in the training of others.Qualifications:Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:High School degree or equivalent education, and pass appropriate test; possess a valid driver's license. Must possess the ability to read and write to complete company documents and forms. Ability to use hand tools in general labor work and perform strenuous manual labor.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Must possess knowledge of job safety requirements, staging material with expertise in workflow processes, troubleshooting, and planning, and strong verbal and written communications skills.
