Job Description

Using sophisticated climbing and rigging techniques, the tree climber/tree trimmer will cut away dead and excess branches from trees or shrubs to improve appearance, health and value of tree.  Prune or treat trees or shrubs using handsaws, hand pruners, clippers and power pruners.  Key responsibilities include:

• Climb trees using climbing hooks and belts.  Cut away dead and excess branches from trees, or clear branches around power lines, using climbing equipment or buckets of extended truck booms, or chainsaws, hooks, handsaws, shears and clippers.  Trim and reshape trees to achieve attractive shapes or to remove low hanging branches.
• Operate loaders, stump chippers, brush chippers, power saws, truck and other equipment and tools.
• Operate grounds maintenance equipment.
• Operate shredding and chipping equipment, and feed limbs and brush into the machines.  Load debris and refuse onto trucks and haul it away for disposal.  Drive trucks or other vehicles to or at worksite.
• Clean, sharpen and lubricate tools and equipment.

Skills, Qualifications and Job Requirements

• Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience in all phases of tree removal and tree trimming.
• Must be proficient with ropes and knots.
• Knowledge of relevant equipment, procedures and strategies to promote safety for the protection of people and property.
• Possess a valid driver's license.
• Must have dependable transportation to and from the shop.
