The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) invites applications for the position of Gardening Supervisor. This position plans, schedules, and supervises a gardening crew and participates in the gardening care and grounds maintenance of a college site, including the care and upkeep of a variety of athletic facilities.

MONTHLY SALARY: $5,997.96-$7,430.42/month

*Salary Information is based on a full-time, 12-month position

VACANCIES

Vacancies currently exists at Los Angeles City College, 855 N Vermont Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90029 and Pierce College, 6201 Winnetka Ave, Woodland Hills, CA 91371. The hiring list established by this examination will also be used to fill future vacancies as they occur during the life of the list. 

 

BENEFITS 

•Medical and dental insurance and vision care plans are provided for employees and their dependents.  

•A $50,000 life insurance policy is provided free of charge for each employee.  

•12 full-pay days and 88 half-pay days of illness leave.  

•At least 16 paid holidays per year.  

•Vacation days accrue annually beginning at 10 days and increasing incrementally to 24 days depending on years of service with the District. Vacation days for management and confidential positions begin at 15, 20, or 24 days.  

•Other paid time off includes: bereavement leave, personal necessity leave, court subpoena, and jury duty.  

•Employees become members of the Public Employees Retirement System. The employee contribution rate is 6 percent. The District also contributes to the retirement system. Employees are also covered by Social Security.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR ACCEPTANCE OF AN APPLICATION:

Education and Experience:

Graduation from high school or its equivalent.

AND

Three years of full-time, paid experience in general gardening work, including care of trees, lawns, shrubs, hedges, and flowers. One year of the required experience must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity. Completion of courses in horticulture, botany, plant propagation, plant identification, landscaping, or related subjects and experience in weed, pest, and vermin control are desirable.

OR

Successful completion of a two-year program in horticulture, or related subjects, from a community college, adult, vocational, or high school AND two years of full-time, paid experience in general gardening work, including care of trees, lawns, shrubs, hedges, and flowers. One year of the required experience must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity. Experience in weed, pest, and vermin control is desirable.

Special:

A current and valid California Qualified Applicator Certificate for the use of restricted pesticides may be required for some positions.

A valid Class "C" California driver's license may be required for some positions.

Travel to locations throughout the District may be required for some positions.

Physical Requirement:

Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination process may consist of one or more parts which may include a training and experience evaluation, written test, performance test and/or oral interview.
