This multi-department position involves the beautification, improvement and maintenance of our clubhouses and common area gardens. In addition, it will include small landscape installations and maintenance on select private properties. Members of our team will be given a variety of tasks to achieve functional and exceptional outdoor environments when performing landscape duties throughout the Forest Highlands community. Tasks may include but not limited to groundwork preparation, planting and maintenance of seasonal and perennial garden beds, annual flowerpots and hanging baskets; mulch application, irrigation maintenance, pruning, watering and occasional insecticide and/or fungicide application. This position is seasonal (April-October) under the direction of the Head of Horticulture within the Golf Maintenance Department and. Essential Functions:

  • Customer Service Must maintain a professional, clean appearance and have exemplary costumer service skills when interacting with members and coworkers, while maintaining a positive attitude and work environment.

  • General Work Requirements - will include (not an all-inclusive list)
  • Care and maintenance of trees, shrubs and ornamentals on property.
  • Planting and pruning various types of trees, shrubs and flowers.
  • Fertilizing and watering
  • Ability to follow landscape design and implementation diagrams to completion.
  • Planting and care of flowerpots, baskets and annual beds.
  • Operate and maintain garden and landscaping equipment.
  • Keep grounds free of litter, weeds and debris.
  • Repair and maintain work equipment.
Requirements

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Reliable, on-time, flexible in schedule and able to work weekends and holidays

including Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day

  • Valid Drivers License
  • Ability to drive manual transmission (clutch) vehicles.
  • Basic knowledge of plants, trees and shrubs
  • Past landscaping/groundskeeping experience a plus
  • Familiarity with sprinkler systems, gardening techniques and landscaping equipment
  • Proficient in using manual and power tools safely.
  • Ability to take direction, follow instruction, and work both alone or with others

Language Skills:

Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals and effectively communicate with guests, management, vendors/suppliers, club members, the public and other employees of the company.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add and subtract.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

This position is in a busy golf club and private residential community.

  • Ability to lift up to 25-50lbs regularly; up to 100lbs with help occasionally, to lift overhead, push/pull and have hand dexterity.
  • Possess the physical stamina to frequently walk, sit, stand, bend, crouch, for long periods of time; manually haul refuse/soil/rock and adjust vision accordingly (close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception)
  • Endure exposure to changing weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain, snow, and humidity.
  • Adhere to the continuous ability to talk and hear (never more than 1 earbud in at any time)
  • Ability to work quietly in high traffic areas.
  • Organization and ability to work in a busy environment where tasks, weather and priorities are ever changing.

Equipment Used: Utility vehicles (manual transmission), crew trucks (manual transmission), gardening hand tools, pick axes, wheelbarrows, hoses and nozzles, fertilizer application equipment as well as gas powered tools such as pruners, weed eaters and backpack blowers
