Job Description
Perform unskilled grounds keeping and laboring work involving the maintenance, care and modification of campus landscape and properties. Work is periodically spot-checked and reviewed for neatness and effectiveness. Contacts include co-workers, other service department employees and other university staff and students.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general grounds maintenance duties: remove leaves, mow grass, sweep campus driveways and streets, pick up paper and trash, remove dead trees and limbs, trim trees and shrubs, spray for insects and disease, fertilize plants, plant trees and shrubs, sow grass, lay sod
- Perform hand grading, excavating and shovel work. Remove snow from streets and sidewalks. Will be on call for snow removal
- May perform trash pickup of campus area, hauling to and unloading at dump and perform necessary minor maintenance of truck and equipment
- May assist workers of a higher level in performing specialized assignments
- May operate truck, tractor, lawn mower, chainsaw, and various tools used in groundskeeping, trash pickup and other miscellaneous duties
- Perform other duties as assigned
Supervision Received
Under direct supervision, receives daily instructions on work to be performed. Usually receive work assignments and guidance from groundskeeper of a higher level.
Shift
Monday-Friday, 6:00am-2:30pm
Minimum Qualifications
High School graduate or an equivalent combination of education and experience, from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired, is necessary.
Ability on a daily basis to:
Shovel snow, climb ladders and operate heavy, power-operated mowing and snow removal equipment
Grasp, lift, carry and set down heavy objects (50-75 lbs.)
A valid driver's license may be required for certain positions.
Anticipated Hiring Range
The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $14.50-$16.32 hourly.
Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
