Reporting to the Superintendent of CFAES Wooster Farm Operations, the position participates in agricultural operations to provide support for plant and animal research and education programs conducted at CFAES Wooster Campus; activities include production, storage and transportation of agricultural commodities and materials; repairs and maintains motorized and non-motorized farm equipment; operates various tractor-drawn and self-powered
agricultural equipment to plant, grow, harvest and store crops; works with and trains student employees and practicum students on various tasks. Position located at Wooster, Ohio.
Responsibilities:
40% Operates tractors, harvesters, mowers, sprayers, spreaders, tillage and other farm machinery to produce and store crops for agricultural research and education programs; leads lower level staff and student employees on various
tasks as required; supervises completion of varied assigned projects.
25% Provides leadership for small work groups in building and repairing fences, clearing brush and fence rows, filling silos, installing and repairing drainage systems; operates, maintains and repairs non-motorized equipment such as plows, discs, planters, mowers, rakes and balers; operates welders, torches, grinders, saws, drills and other power tools to fabricate new or modify existing equipment for agricultural field research
20% Assists other units and departments in operation of equipment to perform various tasks, serves as back-up driver for feed truck; transports agricultural commodities and equipment to statewide locations; feeds, cares, handles and
transports livestock
10% Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor; assists with recording data and records; cleans building, grounds and shop areas; serves as standby operator for snow removal; drives tractor/tour wagon for campus tours; works overtime as required to meet peak work loads
5% Cleans and maintains motorized equipment such as tractors, skid-steer loaders, backhoes, etc., including routinely checking oil, coolant levels and tire pressure, changes oil and filters, performs minor external engine repairs such as
replacing lights, batteries and belts
Farm Laborer 2 is a CWA (Communications Workers of America) position.
