To provide skilled equipment operation and landscape construction services to support the
University's landscaping and environmental services program .
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Typically holds a high school diploma or GED. Requires 2 or more years of job related experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Driver's license required.
Preferred Qualifications
High school diploma and 4 years experience in landscape construction, maintenance and equipment operation.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge and skills in operating a variety of heavy equipment including: tractors, dump trucks, pickup trucks, cars, trenchers, graders, mowers. Knowledge of safety practices relevant to equipment operation and construction. Ability to exercise initiative and be proactive in performance of duties. Ability to drive specialized vehicles such as sweeper trucks.

Job Duty
Works on special landscaping, irrigation, horticultural, and heavy equipment projects such as grading, cleaning of parking lots, installing sprinkler systems, tree, shrub and sod installation and maintenance, assisting with masonry projects
when applicable, and leading a small grounds maintenance crew to care for University properties including the allocation of materials and equipment, communicating with area supervisors
or other trades specialists in order to complete tasks and resolve problems, and maintaining positive customer-focused relationships with co workers, supervisors, campus department faculty and staff,
and the general public.

Operates sweeper truck, dump truck, loaders, backhoes, trenchers, tract mowers and vehicles under limited supervision, following weekly goals to be accomplished and communicating with Grounds Area Supervisors to support grounds operations.

Performs routine planned maintenance and inspections of the following grounds maintenance equipment: sweeper truck, backhoe, trencher, lawn mowers, skid steer loader, track vacuum, chain saws, edgers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, blowers and any other gas-powered equipment by developing or implementing a planned maintenance schedule, physically
observing equipment, identifying the need for repairing and/or servicing equipment, maintaining a detail log of planned maintenance work performed, communicating problems to appropriate personnel, and making recommendations regarding the planned maintenance program to provide for, as well as assist in, corrective action prior to necessary emergency action and ensures that any planned or
corrective maintenance work is planned and scheduled with area supervisors and other trades specialists.

Serves as back-up area supervisor during extended absences When necessary while staying abreast of all applicable policies and procedures in order to maintain organization and productivity within the area.
