- Sweeps, vacuums, and mops floors, hallways, stairways, elevators, laboratories, and offices.
- Strips, waxes and polishes floors; shampoos carpets.
- Wipes, dusts, and polishes furniture, desks, file cabinets, counter tops, locker tops, handrails, fuel pumps, ledges, wood louvers, blinds, and metal work.
- Washes and waxes outdoor furniture and planters.
- Cleans and washes woodwork, walls, draperies, elevator walls, doors, and light switches and covers indoors and outdoors.
- Cleans and polishes door hardware, mirrors, and other stainless steel and chrome fixtures.
- Empties and wipes ashtrays, smoking stands, pencil sharpeners, and trash receptacles.

- Mops, cleans, and disinfects floors, urinals, toilets, showers, walls, countertops, and wash basins; services restrooms; replenishes supplies, such as toilet seat covers, soap, paper towels, toilet paper, deodorant dispensers, etc.
- Scrubs and disinfects benches and walls of sauna rooms, showers, tile floors and all ceramic tile areas in locker rooms and laboratories.
- Cleans and disinfects water fountains and telephones.
- Locks and unlocks doors, windows, and gates; sets alarm system.
- Cleans entrance way and sidewalks immediately adjacent to building; sweeps and picks up debris, and waters plants.
- Removes mattresses/pillows from unoccupied cell(s), cleans, bio-hazard disinfects, and dries prior to storing in storage area.
- May raise and lower flags; care for flags; maintain flagpole and surrounding area.
- Lifts and transports heavy objects such as desks, filing cabinets, tables, refuse barrels, and equipment.
- May work on grounds and parking areas adjacent to assigned buildings.
- Uses hand and power tools and cares for and maintains lawns, hedges, trees, access roadways, and shrubbery by cleaning, watering, fertilizing, spraying herbicide/insecticide, trimming, pruning, mowing, sweeping, and raking.
- Plants shrubbery and plants, sods lawns, and propagates plants and shrubs from seeds, cuttings, and roots.
- Operates and maintains light motorized or power equipment such as power lawn mowers and tools such as edgers, trimmers, weeders, and power washers.
- May make minor maintenance repairs such as but not limited to replacing light bulbs, washers, toilet seats, and floats; turning off valves; and boarding up broken entrances/windows.
- Enforces rules and ordinances applicable to the protection of public safety and public property.
- Assists in the various trades as required.
- Assists in the maintenance and preparation of operational records and reports.
- Runs errands.
- May operate a vehicle to perform assigned duties.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
