Location: Winnebago Tribal Facilities Department in Winnebago, NE 68071

Job Purpose & Position Overview:

Maintenance and lawn care of all tribal grounds

Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Demonstrates the Winnebago Tribes core mission, vision, and values.
• Lawn mowing, weed-whipping, tree & hedge trimming, removal of branches, twigs, etc., at 24 tribal office buildings, three tribal parks, powwow grounds & four tribal cemeteries.
• Snow removal & putting down salt around 24 tribal properties & homes of: disabled tribal members, tribal members on dialysis, tribal senior citizens, & police/EMT/first responders.
• Apply fertilizer & weed killer chemicals when needed, watering & seeding as needed.
• Completes continual daily litter pickup on U.S. Hwy 77 and 75, BIA Road 3 & 17, and on streets and roadways all over the community of Winnebago.
• In conjunction with Winnebago Wake & Burial service, complete grave locating, digging & burial, prepare rough boxes & assist with burial services. Will cut trees & split wood for funerals, ceremonies and for tribal members who use wood burners.
• Groundskeepers should be available during any funerals conducted, and when the need arises for any other related duties.
• May require irregular hours in bad weather in all seasons.
• Assists in all maintenance of tribal equipment.
• All other duties as assigned by the supervisor, Facilities Manager or Physical Resource Director, when needed.

Required Qualifications/Skills:

• Must have high school diploma or GED.
• Drivers license is preferred but not required.
• Must have good work habits and be able to work with little or no supervision.
• Must keep all matters pertaining to the program strictly confidential.
• Ability to relate to and understand people is required.
• Knowledge of operations and maintenance of all grounds equipment such as chainsaws, weed eaters, tractors, bush hogs, back hoes, skid loaders, manual transmissions and dump trucks.
• One-year experience in lawn care & maintenance or experience in related field of grounds keeping.

Work Environment:

• Both indoor and outdoor assignments require frequent prolonged exposure to inclement weather. All groundskeepers may be required to work extended or irregular hours, including nights, weekends and holidays with frequently rotating shifts and duty stations. Assignments are subject to change without advance notice.

Training Requirements:

• Must be willing to attend meetings and trainings as requested.

Physical Requirements:

• Normal to heavy work which includes the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. or more.
• Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate lawn equipment and company vehicles.
• While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen.

Mental Requirements:

• Reading, writing, calculating
• Above average social interaction skills
• Reasoning/Analysis
• Ability to work as part of a team and/or with minimal to no supervision.

Language Requirements:

• Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
• Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.
