Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Buildings/Grounds Supervisor, this position operates various motorized vehicles and equipment to maintain the grounds and roadways at the Wisconsin Veterans' Home at King (WVHK). The incumbent uses equipment such as trucks, lawn mowers, snowplows, front-end loaders, backhoes, and industrial tractors; utilizes hand and power tools to maintain lawns and shrubs; provides landscaping services; assists crafts workers and other staff in building and project works; and operates trucks and non-motorized equipment to deliver stores and supplies. The position also assists in setting up equipment and furniture for special events; maintains streets and grounds; and transports various materials.

Salary Information
Starting wage is $16.18 per hour, plus additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.
Groundskeeper is in pay schedule-pay range 03-08. For current or eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan effective at the time of hire.
This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.
Job Details
LTE's will be filling in for vacations and covering vacancies in a 24/7 facility including weekends and holidays. One position will primarily be responsible for general groundskeeping and landscaping projects. The other position will back up the groundskeeping crew and be responsible for internal and external general building and grounds maintenance projects, special events, projects and deliveries.
Physical and environmental conditions and requirements include but are not limited to:
- Interior building conditions are those normally found in a long-term health care facility.
- WVH-King is a multi-building institution. Some buildings are connected by a network of underground tunnels. The facilities are located on 321 acres of varying geography. Work is performed throughout the campus in all weather conditions.
- NOTE: Work will require the wearing of personal protective equipment as indicated, including hearing protection, hard hats, safety glasses, dust masks, gloves, leg protection, etc.

Due to the nature of the position, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.
Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have experience performing lawn mowing, landscaping, snow and/or ice removal, , and general maintenance and repairs in an industrial facility.
Well-qualified applicants will also provide details about their experience:
- Working in a 24/7 facility
- Operating large and small motorized equipment.
- Experience working outdoors in all weather condidtions
- Following safety procedures.
