Purpose Of Class/Primary Function
The primary function of an employee in this class is to manage and
perform all aspects of
operations and services for all County parks. The employee supervises
seasonal, part-time,
temporary, and volunteer employees. The position is under the direct
supervision of the Parks
and Recreation Director, although some latitude is allowed for
independent judgment and
initiative. The principal duties of the position are performed in an
outdoor environment and
public buildings. Reasonable accommodations will be considered for
qualified individuals
with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises day-to-day operations and performs maintenance activities of
all parks and
recreation areas;
Supervises, trains, evaluates, and schedules maintenance and support
employees,
volunteers, and community service workers;
Performs maintenance and support duties, including, but not limited to:
mowing,
weeding, fertilizing, landscaping, tree trimming, pruning, watering,
repairing sprinklers,
equipment repair, plowing snow, painting, minor electrical and plumbing
repair etc.;
Monitors park activities and enforces park rules;
Prepares and applies pesticides and chemicals;
Collects water system samples; evaluates potential park hazards;
Prepares and maintains records, documents, logs, and related
operational, use, incident,
and maintenance documentation;
Plans and assists in installation, construction, and maintenance of
irrigation systems,
buildings, recreational facilities, and related projects;
Supervises and performs equipment maintenance and repairs;
Operates light and heavy equipment for maintenance duties;
Operates various hand tools for maintenance and repair duties;
Researches and recommends new equipment purchases;

Performs park, facility, and equipment safety inspections;
Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to
maximize the
effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and
activities;
Performs all work duties and activities in accordance County policies,
procedures, and
safety practices.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
On call after regular work hours to respond to emergency situations;
Assists with construction and waterway projects;
Assists in planning and coordinating future park expansion or other
major projects;
Performs other related duties as required.
Competency Requirements
Knowledge of:
Methods, techniques, practices, equipment, tools, and objectives of park
maintenance
operations;
Customer service policies, techniques, and objectives;
Federal (OSHA), state, County, and other applicable safety requirements
and codes.
Ability to:
Operate a variety of light and heavy equipment and tools required for
park operations and
maintenance;
Operate a motor vehicle and maintenance tools and vehicles;
Follow oral and written directions;
Operate standard office equipment and a personal computer using program
applications
appropriate to assigned duties;
Supervise, train, and evaluate seasonal or temporary employees;
Maint ain logs, records and other documentation of maintenance
activities;
Perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and
speed under the
pressure of time-sensitive deadlines;
