REPORTS TO: Director of Buildings & Grounds POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Director of Buildings & Grounds, the Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of all school buildings and grounds. This includes general custodial and maintenance duties, as well as specialized care of athletic fields and outdoor spaces. The Groundskeeper plays a critical role in creating a clean, well-kept, and safe environment for students, staff, and the community. A key responsibility of this role is the maintenance and preparation of athletic fields for various school sports and activities. Duties include mowing, fertilizing, irrigating, lining, and repairing playing surfaces to ensure they are safe, functional, and in optimal condition for athletic use. The Groundskeeper must possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Knowledge and use of groundskeeping equipment, including the ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs, is required. During inclement weather or outside of active sports seasons, the Groundskeeper will be assigned general custodial or maintenance duties within the school buildings as needed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following: Athletic Field Maintenance Maintains and prepares athletic fields for school sports and events. Mows, fertilizes, irrigates, and lines playing fields. Repairs turf and surfaces to ensure safety and playability. Monitors and adjusts irrigation systems as necessary. Ensures fields are properly marked and maintained throughout the sports season. Performs field inspections to identify and address wear, damage, or hazards. Operates and maintains groundskeeping equipment specific to athletic field upkeep. Assists with other duties outside the sports season or during inclement weather, as assigned. General Grounds & Building Maintenance Mows and trims all lawn and grass areas. Cleans parking areas and campus grounds to remove trash and debris. Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes and buffs floors. Vacuums and shampoos carpeted areas. Washes and spot cleans walls; dusts and washes windows in glassed areas. Replaces bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and other burned out lighting fixtures. Empties trash and recycling bins throughout the buildings. Replaces soap, toilet tissue, paper towels and other such supplies in restrooms and classrooms. Cleans and sanitizes all lavatories. Performs snow removal duties, including shoveling, snow blowing, and potentially plowing, with focused attention to building entrances and exits. Secures buildings/areas by locking and unlocking as required. Reports maintenance issues promptly and makes minor repairs as directed. Services and performs routine maintenance on job-related machinery and equipment (e.g., adjusting, cleaning, and oiling) to keep them in good working condition. Performs any other duties as assigned by the Director of Buildings & Grounds, Superintendent and/or their designee. QUALIFICATIONS: Honest, reliable, dependable. Self starter. Detail oriented. Proficient in operating computerized equipment, including systems used for HVAC management. Capable of following instructions with precision and efficiency. Ability to use equipment to perform routine repairs and service. Ability to work effectively with the public, staff, and students. Ability to use small hand tools for performing minor maintenance tasks. Must be authorized to work in the United States EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma required. Possess Valid Driver's License. Ability to obtain/maintain valid Hoisting License (Forklift & Hydraulics) Previous experience in cleaning and maintaining institutional facilities. Previous experience with lawn care and landscape maintenance is a plus. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a 12 month position. This position is part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Services Employees International Unit (Custodial Unit) and the SWCRVSDC. HOURLY RATE: $25.64 and/or as appropriate step on the salary schedule pursuant to the SEI CBA. Continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and frequently operates equipment such as tractors, snow blowers, lawn movers, weed whackers, fork truck, pickup truck, plows, etc. Must frequently climb stairs, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Occasionally pushes or pulls items such as tables, bleachers, or scrubbing machines. Specific vision requirements include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
