We are seeking a skilled Excavator Operator to join our team on various construction sites throughout our service of the Greater Columbus area. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy equipment operation, particularly with excavators and mini-excavators, and possess mechanical knowledge to ensure the safe and efficient operation of machinery. This role requires a commitment to safety and quality work while collaborating with other team members on site.
**Responsibilities**
- Operate excavators and other heavy equipment, including backhoes, loaders, bulldozers, to move materials, dig foundations and grade land.
- Read and understand project plans, blueprints, and other specifications.
- Plan, layout, and determine depth, grade, and alignment of excavation according to project specifications.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment including greasing, changing filters, and checking fluid levels. Clean vehicles/equipment on a daily basis.
- Collaborate with site supervisors and other operators to coordinate work activities effectively.
- Manage others as part of a dig crew when necessary
- Maintain a clean and organized work area while adhering to safety regulations.
- Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner while adhering to safety protocols.
- Ensure a safe work environment by following company safety policies and procedures.
- Communicate clearly with team members and management, participating in planning meetings.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and report any mechanical issues promptly.
- Follow project plans and specifications to achieve desired outcomes efficiently.
**Requirements**
- 3 + years' experience operating heavy construction equipment is required.
- 3 + years' experience operating an excavator and skid loader preferred.
- Strong knowledge of excavation techniques, equipment, and materials including water and sewer installation.
- Ability to read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and other specifications.
- Experience with maintenance and repair of equipment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience working in residential and commercial job sites.
- Experience driving non-cdl dump truck with equipment trailer.
- Strong mechanical knowledge related to heavy equipment operation.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment while following safety protocols.
- Valid driver's license may be required depending on job location and equipment operated.
**Education and Certification**
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Additional certifications in heavy equipment operation are preferred.
- OSHA safety training and certifications are a plus.
**Physical Requirements**
- Ability to perform physical labor and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods of time.
