Job Summary: Joint School District 171 is seeking a dedicated and skilled Groundskeeper to join our
team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for maintaining beautiful landscapes and ensuring that
outdoor spaces are clean, safe, and inviting. This role involves various tasks related to landscape
maintenance, lawn care, and the overall upkeep of grounds and buildings exteriors. If you enjoy working

Minimum qualifications: Applicants must have a high school diploma and must have or be able to get
CPR/First Aid Certified. Applicant must be able to lift fifty pounds. Selected applicant must be able to
pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Grounds Maintenance
Mow and edge lawns, trim shrubs and trees, and maintain flower beds and other
landscaping features.
Plant flowers, trees, and shrubs as needed according to seasonal requirements and
landscape plans.
Water lawns and other vegetation as needed, adjusting watering schedules based on
weather conditions.
Fertilize and apply pesticides/herbicides as directed, following safety protocols.
Rake leaves, clear debris, and maintain the cleanliness of walkways, parking lots, and other
exterior areas.
Maintain and make minor repairs to groundskeeping equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers,
blowers).
Dispose of green waste and other refuse appropriately.

Exterior Building Maintenance
Perform routine inspections of building exteriors to identify maintenance needs.
Clean exterior windows, doors, and building surfaces.
Maintain and make minor repairs to exterior fixtures such as lighting, signage, and fences.
Ensure gutters and downspouts are clear of debris.
Assist with painting or touch-ups on exterior surfaces as needed.
Monitor the condition of parking areas and ensure proper striping and signage.
Report any significant maintenance issues or safety hazards to the appropriate supervisor.
General Responsibilities
Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Assist with setting up and tearing down for outdoor events.
Respond to requests and inquiries related to grounds and exterior maintenance in a timely
and professional manner.
Collaborate with other maintenance staff and departments as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
