POSITION: GROUNDSKEEPER

RESPONSIBLE TO: SUPERVISOR OF FACILITIES AND CUSTODIAL SERVICES

JOB GOAL: To maintain the grounds/facilities in a condition of cleanliness and operating excellence so that students and staff will be furnished with an attractive and comfortable educational environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
One to two years of related commercial grounds or maintenance experience is preferred.
Must be able to demonstrate a basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing and painting.
Hold a valid Class B CDL Ohio drivers license with a clean driving record at the time you are applying for this job.
Applicant must currently have a commercial pesticide / herbicide applicators license in Categories 5, 4 C or E, 6A, C, 8 and 10 or have the ability to obtain the license within 60 days of employment, or employment will be terminated.
Ability to operate snow removal equipment such as plow trucks, tractors, and blowers in a safe manner.
This job may require mandatory overtime.
Ability to load equipment on trailers and tow to various school sites in a safe manner.
Demonstrate understanding of all phases of work to be completed in a commercial environment with multiple sites and buildings.
Demonstrate ability to organize and complete work projects.
Ability to communicate in written and verbal form to correspond with departmental personnel and administration.
Basic computer skills required.
Ability to run sprinkling systems throughout the district on athletic fields and read schematic drawings.
Ability and knowledge to operate, repair, and maintain commercial lawn care and landscaping equipment.
Demonstrate knowledge of working with various hand tools and power tools in a safe manner.
Required to lift, carry, push and pull various supplies and/or equipment up to a maximum of 50 pounds, in accordance with OSHA guidelines.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain necessary records for custodial and grounds equipment

Performs preventive maintenance on all grounds equipment and playground equipment throughout the district

Reviews and makes recommendations for repairs to all driveways, walkways and parking lots of the district, performs such repairs if possible.

Responsible for all aspects of maintaining grounds for the district:
Removes trash and debris from district grounds and empties all exterior trash receptacles throughout the district on a regular basis.
Performs landscaping duties of all flower beds, including but not limited to weeding, picking up trash, and mulching, trees, shrubs and lawns throughout the district.
Removes graffiti from the exterior of all district buildings.
Performs lawn care maintenance of all grass areas and athletic fields throughout the district in accordance with established planned programs. This includes application of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, seeding, mowing and trimming.

Assists with conducting on-going evaluations of all standardized supplies and equipment and test new materials as available for inclusion or exclusion to the program.

Performs minor painting and repairs on all out buildings of the district. This includes press boxes, stadiums, concessions, storage, dugouts, and barn.

Operates in a safe manner all tractors, mowers, lifts, trimmers, chainsaws, power tools and hand tools. Works from elevated heights with various hand and power tools.

Reports all misuse of facilities and makes recommendations for correction.

Maintain immediate areas around the assigned building exterior doors to keep them clear of snow, ice and debris, due to the fire code.

Wash interior and exterior windows and remove graffiti as necessary.

Performs regular custodial duties in assigned areas of the buildings.

Assist visiting members of the public who are utilizing the facilities.

Check schedule daily to provide necessary assistance to support curricular and extracurricular events.

Thoroughly clean all surfaces in restrooms.

Maintain custodial closets in a neat and orderly manner.

Perform general cleanup – any and all incidents as they arise.

Prepare work orders using the web-based work order system of the district.

Occasionally work from elevated surfaces while cleaning overhead.

Keep all necessary items such as but not limited to windows, air locks, chalk/eraser boards, lockers, furniture, and display cases clean at all times.

Check daily to ensure all doors and windows are locked / unlocked as needed.

Report any major repair needs or other deficiencies to the supervisor.

Perform all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Facilities and Custodial Services

WORK CONDITIONS:

The nature of this job requires extended periods of working in extreme weather of heat and cold, with the possibility of working overtime hours. In addition, the applicant will be working with chemical sprays, cleaning chemicals, dust, and pollen laden conditions that may require safety precautions. This job can be fast paced at times in order to get work completed in a timely manner.

Consistent requirements for heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, extended periods of riding lawn equipment, moving mechanical equipment and working on knees.
Work in moderate noise levels.
Must have a physical to determine ability to perform a grounds / custodian job regarding the above working conditions by a health care provider of Licking Height’s choice. Licking Heights will pay for said physical.

EVALUATION: Performance of these responsibilities will be evaluated by the Supervisor of Facilities and Custodial Services in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy.
