Grounds & Maintenance Custodian
Spokane, WA
As a Grounds and Maintenance Custodian you will report to the Building and Grounds Supervisor within the Air Guard Maintenance Division located at Fairchild Airforce Base and are a civilian employee. This position is responsible for providing routine grounds maintenance, building maintenance and some janitorial and custodial duties to assigned buildings and grounds.
This is a civilian position and does not require military service affiliation.

Routine grounds maintenance and clean-up.
  • Maintain lawns, shrubs, flower beds, and landscaped areas.
  • Remove ice and snow from parking lots, driveways, and sidewalks.
  • Application of pesticides, herbicides, and lawn chemicals.
Janitorial maintenance and routine cleanliness of assigned buildings and work areas.
  • Clean facilities.
  • Clean gutters and exterior surfaces.
  • Ordering supplies.
  • Collects and transports solid waste to dumpsters.
Routine minor maintenance on assigned buildings and/or equipment.
  • Electrical Plumbing.
  • Carpentry.
  • Minor building repairs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS One year of experience in custodial services, janitorial services, grounds maintenance, building maintenance, and/or construction. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Working Knowledge of:
  • Landscaping functions (mowing and weeding).
  • Pesticide application.
  • Cleaning methods, safety practices, chemical, equipment, and supplies used in general custodial work.
  • Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the building trades.
Skills and Abilities to:
  • Perform light building maintenance.
  • Operate custodial appliances.
  • Operate and drive truck to transport supplies and equipment, haul refuse/garbage.
  • Operate and maintain electric or gas-powered lawn equipment.

Compensation: Wage/salary depends on qualifications or rules of promotion. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Background Investigation: Must successfully complete the appropriate background checks required for employment and to obtain/maintain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) in order to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret-level security clearance. Must be willing to sign releases of information and shall not have access to any investigative materials and files. The processing of background checks can take up to six months post-employment. Failure to successfully pass a background check may be cause for termination.

Driver's License:

  1. Valid to drive in the State of Washington.
  2. Must meet requirements of the REAL ID Act. This is required for base access and will be required upon hire.

Military Facility: Willingness to work on a Military Controlled Access Installation. Camp Murray and Fairchild AFB utilize the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) for entry to the installation. Must meet access requirements / background check which can be found in the Camp Murray Access Requirements Policy (Unified Policy No. 18-01 ). This includes possession of an Enhanced Drivers License, or other REAL ID Compliant Identification.
Work Hours : The standard work schedule will be Monday - Thursday (4/10 schedule) 6:00am - 4:30pm.
Telework: This position is not eligible for telework. Emergency Assignment: Upon activation of the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) or Joint Field Office (JFO), incumbent may be required to work in an alternate location with rotating shifts, including weekends and evenings, in a highly stressful and fast-paced environment.
