Estate Groundskeeper & Facilities Manager Location: Connecticut, Roxbury Schedule: Full-time, year-round (some weekends, holidays, and early mornings required) Overview: A private family estate in Connecticut is seeking a highly skilled, physically fit, and hands-on Groundskeeper & Facilities Manager to oversee the day-to-day maintenance and care of the property's expansive grounds and mechanical systems. This is a leadership role that requires equal parts technical expertise, proactive project management, and hands-on execution. The ideal candidate is dependable, professional, and committed to excellence in all aspects of estate care. Key Responsibilities: Direct and participate in the care of all outdoor areas including formal gardens, lawns, orchards, trees, shrubs, perennial beds, and seasonal plantings Supervise and coach a small grounds team; lead by example and participate directly in tasks as needed Maintain, troubleshoot, and oversee all mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, irrigation, electrical, septic/well, and pond systems Manage vendor relationships and oversee work of outside contractors and service providers to ensure accountability and quality Oversee and execute preventative maintenance routines for buildings, outdoor structures, utility systems, tools, and vehicles Plan and execute seasonal tasks and long-term property projects with attention to scheduling, supplies, budgeting, and labor Assist with event setup and takedown, ensuring property is immaculate and functional for occasional private events Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, parts, and materials Monitor security and safety systems and respond promptly to urgent or weather-related issues Work closely with the principals and household staff to ensure seamless service and communication Requirements: Minimum 7-10 years of experience in estate management, landscape maintenance, or a related field Strong hands-on experience with horticulture, tree/shrub care, irrigation systems, lawn equipment, small engine repair, and property infrastructure Competence in basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC troubleshooting Physically fit, capable of working in all weather conditions, and able to lift up to 75 lbs Able to prioritize, plan, and execute tasks independently while also managing and mentoring a team Comfortable managing projects to a budget and reporting on costs and progress Professional demeanor and appearance; strong interpersonal and communication skills Tech-literate: comfortable using smartphones, online calendars, shared documents, and maintenance tracking software Valid driver's license with clean record Authorized to work in the United States Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of organic gardening and sustainable landscaping practices Experience managing ponds, wells, and irrigation systems Experience with snow removal and storm preparation/response Knowledge of Connecticut-specific plant species and seasonal conditions Personal Attributes: Can-do attitude with high personal accountability Strong sense of discretion and confidentiality Detail-oriented, efficient, and solutions-focused Flexible and able to adapt to shifting priorities Takes pride in quality work and long-term stewardship Compensation: Competitive salary, 75k-95, based on experience .
