JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: F-032 - Groundskeeper
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Possession of a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) .
Five years of skilled groundskeeping experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.
Must possess and maintain a valid New Jersey driver's license and a satisfactory driving record annually.
Required criminal background check.
New Jersey Pesticide License preferred.
Boiler license required within one year of employment.
REPORTS TO: Buildings & Grounds Supervisor, Director of Facilities Management or designee.
JOB GOAL: Under the direct supervision of the Building & Grounds Supervisor maintain in excellent condition school grounds, athletic fields and grounds equipment. Maintains buildings, structures, fixtures and furniture in a safe and operable condition.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs general grounds keeper assignments and tasks to include cutting, raking, seeding, edging, blowing, and maintaining all district properties.
Repairs and installs concrete and asphalt sidewalks, curbs, ramps, paths, driveways, parking lots and roadways.
Repairs, maintain and install fences including chain link, wood, vinyl and other fencing materials.
Removes, replaces and installs signage throughout the district as assigned.
Setup and maintain all athletic fields at two High Schools and other properties of the Wayne Board of Education as assigned.
Removes accumulated snow and applies salt and de-icing products using trucks, plows, shovels and snow removal equipment.
Operate tractors, backhoes, mowers, and other specialized grounds keeping equipment.
Repairs, paints and maintains all equipment in good working order.
Maintains effective working relationships with other grounds keepers and works in cooperation with other Supervisors, Administrators and district personnel to effectively meet department grounds keeping objectives.
Ensures orders for materials, supplies, equipment and contracted services for grounds keeping work is appropriate for the scope of work or level of work assigned.
Coordinates and schedules assigned groundskeeping work with the Buildings & Grounds Supervisor.
Keeps the Building & Grounds Supervisor appraised at all times of the status of assigned grounds keeping tasks and assignments.
Responds to all grounds keeping emergencies as required; coordinate activities with other responders; utilize available resources to affect repairs and ensure the safety of the community and school district.
Performs a variety of field groundskeeping activities either alone or with other assigned personnel.
Performs other grounds keeping duties as directed by the Facilities Manager.
Pick-ups and moves obsolete or surplus equipment, furniture, materials and supplies as required through-out the district.
OTHER DUTIES:
Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by the Director of Facilities, or designee, and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education. This position is part of the Wayne Custodial-Maintenance Association.
ANNUAL EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board's policy on the evaluation of non-certificated staff.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
