Position Overview

Position Summary:
Under direct supervision, the Groundskeeper performs duties in grounds maintenance. This position reports to the Grounds Foreman.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cares for trees and shrubs, including trimming and watering.
- Maintains lawns by mowing, gardening, weeding, edging, trimming, cleaning, raking, and fertilizing.
- Maintains flower beds, including watering, pruning, and applying chemicals.
- Picks up and transports refuse, brush, and other unwanted materials to designated dump sites.
- Cleans parking lots and fills potholes with blacktop.
- Removes snow and ice from walkways and outdoor areas.
- Clean debris from roofs.
- Performs minor cleaning and maintenance of groundskeeping equipment, including checking oil, lubrication, cleaning, and inspecting safety features.
- Assists with moves and event set-ups as needed.
- Responds to emergencies during evenings, nights, and weekends.
- Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary.
Requirements
Minimum Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Must possess or complete the National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course (paid for by the employer).
- Must pass a background check and be willing to obtain a pre-employment physical (paid for by the employer).
Preferred:
- Bilingual (Spanish/English).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of planting and the care of trees, shrubs, and grass.
- Ability to communicate effectively and follow detailed oral and written instructions.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools and equipment commonly used in groundskeeping, such as lawnmowers, weed eaters, shears, shovels, and spades.
- Knowledge of the installation, maintenance, and repair of sprinkler systems.
Working Conditions
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, and reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and communicate verbally.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, as well as moving mechanical parts.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
