At Utah Valley University, the Sports Field Groundskeeper plays a vital role in creating and maintaining safe, attractive, and high-quality sports fields that support athletic excellence and community pride. Working under the direction of the Director of Grounds/Facilities, this position is responsible for the daily care and upkeep of the university's sports fields, including planting, transplanting, and pruning trees, shrubs, and other plants.

  • Maintains sports fields. Performs garbage pick-up, performs mowing and trimming of campus lawns, including monitoring of the height of cut, frequency of cut, safety hazards and turf condition.
  • Performs planting, transplanting and pruning of trees, shrubs and other plants.
  • Performs daily upkeep and adjustment of all lawn mowers. Assists in repairing mechanical equipment, makes emergency repairs to utility systems, lawn mowers and facilities. Sharpens and repairs reels for proper cut and angle. Operates light and heavy tractors, tracks and stationary equipment.
  • Assists Watermaster in sprinkler operations, secondary water system and fountains. Inspects supplies and licenses, repairs valves, sprinkler heads and other components of a sprinkling system.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Graduation with a high school diploma and one year of related experience or any combination of job-related experience and education totaling one year.

Preferred Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate's degree and two years of related experience; OR, any combination of education or experience related to the summary of duties totaling four years.

Licenses/Certifications:

Must have a valid Utah driver's license.Knowledge

  • Knowledge of sports fields maintenance.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of landscape, planting, pruning, mowing, weeding, etc.

Skills

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Abilities

  • Ability to read blueprints.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal procedures and instructions.

  • Ability to work fluctuating shifts to accommodate game play.
