Position Summary:
Under the leadership of the Manager, Facilities Management, the Groundskeeper is an active member of the Facilities Management team that works to implement the department’s strategic vision, goals, philosophy and direction. Cuts grass, sweeps walks, rakes, edges, prunes and maintains landscaping shrubs, plants and ornamental floral beds in order to provide a well-groomed appearance of CRHS grounds and properties. Applies insecticides and fertilizers as directed and according to manufacturers’ specifications. Performs basic carpentry, painting, equipment maintenance and trash removal.
Basic Qualifications:
- Education:
A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Experience:
Requires up to six months of work-related experience in the landscaping and ground keeping
- Licensure, Registrations & Certifications:
Requires a current, valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. Motor Vehicle Report required upon hire and reviewed annually.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Performs grass cutting, sweeping, raking, and edging in order to provide a well-groomed appearance.
- Prunes and maintains landscaping shrubs, plants and ornamental floral beds.
- Analyzes soil condition and applies appropriate mix of fertilizer to achieve best results for lawn, trees, plants and ornamental floral beds.
- Provides plants a healthy environment in which to grow by controlling the pests, insects and fungi that weaken plants and cause long-term damage.
- Replaces grass and plants and re-sows areas to create new arrangements to enhance the landscape beauty of CRHS’s properties.
- Translates landscape designs into landscape settings.
- Applies insecticides within CRHS following an established insecticide application program to maintain an insect free environment as part of CRHS’s infection control program.
- Performs basic carpentry as required and requested.
- Performs basic painting when required (normally limited to the outside area and lawn equipment).
- Collects and disposes of trash and debris from hospital property.
- Inspects, maintains and repairs all grounds equipment and ensures the equipment has been routinely serviced and is in proper working condition.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of current developments in safety standards, codes and department policies and procedures.
- Develops and maintains courteous, cooperative relations when interacting with hospital staff, patients and visitors.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
