Under general supervision, independently or as a member of a crew performs routine maintenance of parks and City-owned property, including general grounds maintenance, athletic fields, and minor construction projects.
  • Mows, edges and clears turf areas. Trims hedges and prunes damaged limbs and trees.
  • Remove trash, debris, and other materials from creeks and ponds.
  • Inspects park facilities for damage such as picnic tables, grills, benches and play equipment.
  • Cleans walks and play areas.
  • May assist with construction projects, solid waste removal, pesticide application and color bed planting and maintenance.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • One to three years of experience maintaining park facilities and grounds.

  • One to two year tree maintenance experience (e.g. pruning, trimming, planting, and removal of trees) and/or one to two year experience maintaining plant material and working in parks maintenance preferred.

  • Must have a valid Texas driver's license and a good driving record.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with other employees and citizens.

  • Ability to read and understand work orders and equipment manuals.

  • Ability to measure and mix chemicals.

  • Skill in the operation of hand tools and equipment such as mowers, tractors, gas powered trimmers, saws and other gardening and maintenance tools.

  • Ability to sit, stand and transport self from building to building. Ability to drive a vehicle to and from various work sites.

  • Employee will work in extreme temperatures bending, lifting, and moving pieces of equipment in order to complete work or make repairs.

  • Employee will be exposed to chemicals while maintaining parks and rights-of-ways.
    Work hours will be as follows: Full-Time: Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
