Arbor Technician

Serve as an active member of the tree maintenance crew, assisting with tree pruning, trimming, and removal operations while developing arboricultural skills and ensuring work is performed safely and efficiently. Assist with other projects as deemed necessary.

• Inspect, maintain and operate all tree trimming and removal tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, and bucket trucks, and related arboricultural equipment.
• Assist with trimming, pruning and removing trees, including the removal of diseased, damaged or hazardous limbs and the removal of entire trees when required.
• Assist with updating and maintaining information in the Citys Tree Inventory system.
• Lift heavy tree limbs and haul materials; work for extended periods in physically demanding positions including stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
• Support general landscape and park maintenance activities including mowing, operating equipment such as skid steers or similar machinery, hand digging for grade adjustments, and preparing areas for planting trees, shrubs, annuals, sod, decorative rock, and irrigation components.
• Assist with park operations and special projects including event preparation, seasonal decorations, facility lighting maintenance, and transportation of equipment or vehicles as assigned.
• Implement traffic control measures including barricades, safety cones, and signage in accordance with Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) guidelines.
• Drive City vehicles to and from various work sites.
• Complete required trainings as specified within the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.
• In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description.
• Assist with PLM&O projects as assigned. Perform additional duties as assigned. Be available for emergency call-outs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• 6 months experience in tree maintenance, pruning and large tree removal.
• Must be able to work evenings, weekends and outdoors, as needed.
• Valid Class E driver license. Must obtain state of Florida Class E driver license within one (1) month of employment.

PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• FDOT TTC/MOT Intermediate Certification. Must complete within three (3) months of employment.
• Willingness to adopt AI and emerging technologies.

Arbor Technician II:

• One (1) year experience in urban tree maintenance, pruning and large tree removal.
• Valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with air brake endorsement.

Arbor Technician III:

• Two (2) years experience in urban tree maintenance, pruning and large tree removal.
• Valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with air brake endorsement.
• International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist.

Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and a criminal background screening.

Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related felony offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12).

Position is considered at-risk for exposure to Hepatitis B during performance of regular duties. An acceptance/declination of vaccination form is required.

If selected, an essential functions assessment is required to measure the ability to safely perform the required physical demands.
