Job Description
SUMMARY: Under general supervision, performs year-round grounds maintenance, seasonal property care, snow and ice removal, exterior upkeep, and related facilities support duties for County-owned properties. Maintains County grounds in a safe, clean, functional, and presentable condition and responds to seasonal, weather-related, and operational needs as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned.
45%
Maintains County grounds by mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, weeding, seeding, mulching, watering, planting, and removing leaves, litter, branches, and debris from assigned properties, sidewalks, entrances, curbs, parking lots, and exterior areas.
20%
Performs seasonal and weather-related duties including snow and ice removal; applies salt and de-icing materials; and assists with storm response, cleanup, and related weather events.
15%
Maintains the cleanliness and appearance of exterior building areas and provides facilities support by assisting with hauling, moving, loading, unloading, setup, cleanup, and other labor-related tasks as assigned.
10%
Safely operates, inspects, cleans, and maintains County vehicles, mowers, plows, spreaders, tractors, skid steers, trailers, and other assigned grounds equipment, including safely hooking up trailers to vehicles, loading and unloading equipment from trailers, and maneuvering vehicles with tow-behind trailers; reports malfunctions, damage, and safety hazards.

Completes assigned work orders, logs, and daily assignments in an efficient and timely manner; works cooperatively with supervisors, coworkers, and other County departments; and responds to emergency, after-hours, and operational needs as required.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one year of groundskeeping, landscaping, public works, facilities maintenance, or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess the knowledge and skill to safely hook up trailers to vehicles, load and unload equipment from trailers, maneuver vehicles with tow-behind trailers, and efficiently operate mowing equipment, snow and ice removal equipment, and other groundskeeping equipment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, work orders, logs, and memoranda. Ability to write simple reports and complete basic records. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to supervisors, coworkers, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to maintain simple usage and material records.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out written or verbal instructions and to deal with routine and changing operational conditions in a safe and efficient manner.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, and handle tools and equipment.
The employee frequently is required to reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift, carry, push, pull, and climb as needed. The employee must also be able to safely enter and exit vehicles and equipment, hook up and unhook trailers, load and unload equipment from trailers, and operate vehicles and tow-behind trailers in varying weather and site conditions.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
Work is performed primarily outdoors at County facilities and properties and may include exposure to traffic, machinery, noise, dust, chemicals, heat, cold, rain, snow, and uneven terrain.
