Garden Designer / Assistant / Native Plant Wizard Wanted (Foster - Powell) image 1 of 4 compensation: $25 / hr employment type: experience level: senior level job title: Gardener / Landscape Designer Hours: ~20 hrs/week a few days a week, Mon-Fri, mostly between 10 AM and 4 PM I'm looking for a garden expert who can guide me through the steps of planting, mulching, and, most importantly, designing a backyard space that looks and feels lovely. The position is part-time, likely 20ish hours per week, likely only for the summer. We'll be working together on both the design and build portions of the project, hopefully getting at least twice as much done as I would were I doing it all myself. Depending on your skill set there are other projects we could potentially tackle, such as resetting the posts in my backyard fence. Carpentry experience is a big plus, but not required. Other projects include drip irrigation, rain barrels, pollinator houses, that sort of thing. The job will be a lot of digging, shoveling, hauling, etc., so a decent level of fitness/good joints will be necessary. I do plan on hiring additional labor for the bigger days of digging/wheelbarrowing, so no worries if you're not a literal work horse, neither am I. I've included some generated images to give you an idea (kind of tacky, I know, but hopefully it helps for basic visualization). I don't know enough about garden design to say may or may not be, or even exactly what I want on a technical level (hence hiring in the "skilled trade/artisan" field rather than the "general labor" field). All I really know is that the end goal is a garden that A) includes lots of native plants, B) still has some grass for child's play area, C) has an arched arbor connecting the two grassy patches of the yard, and D) feels like a magical cozy animal crossing/Ghibli forest. To give you an idea about who I am: I'm 39 years old, married, former carpenter turned-stay-at-home dad. I like board games, esoteric nerd stuff, backpacking, and arthouse and action films in equal measure. In short, the standard Portlander stereotype (minus the beard). You really don't need to be any of those things, I've had great working relationships with people whom I've had nothing in common with, really the most important things I'm looking for are knowledge and ability. If this sounds like a good part-time gig, send me an email about yourself and your experience. A resume really isn't necessary, but feel free if you've got one prepared. Pictures of current or previous gardens you've worked on are a plus. What I'm looking for the most is a sense that you're a real person who's actually interested in this project specifically. Thanks, hopefully we'll chat more soon. Principals only. Recruiters, please don't contact this job poster. post id: ... [ ]
