General Job Description
The Groundskeeper performs a variety of skilled grounds and landscaping tasks in the development, maintenance, safety, and upkeep of all District grounds, athletic fields, landscaped areas, and related exterior facilities.
Qualifications and Responsibilities
- Responsible for daily inspection and maintenance of District grounds, athletic fields, landscaped areas, exterior facilities, and related grounds systems; reports repair needs, vandalism, safety concerns, or other problems to the Maintenance Supervisor and building principal as appropriate.
- Maintain lawns and athletic facilities, including mowing, fertilizing, seeding, thatching, aerating, top dressing, edging, and field preparation.
- Maintain and develop landscaping, including preparing ground for lawns, plants, trees, shrubs, seeds, and bulbs; raking leaves; pulling, hoeing, and cutting weeds; pruning, spraying, and fertilizing.
- Perform grounds-related tasks including debris removal, drainage maintenance, irrigation system operation and maintenance, snow/ice response as assigned, and general exterior site upkeep.
- Operate and perform minor maintenance on grounds equipment and tools, including hand implements; push, riding, and gang mowers; edgers; weed eaters; blowers; grinders; chainsaws; tractors; backhoe/ditch witch or other large equipment as assigned and qualified.
- Observe District safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment when performing groundskeeping work.
- Physical ability to perform manual work associated with groundskeeping duties including walking, climbing, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Physical ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Demonstrated ability to interact positively with faculty, students, staff, and the public in job situations beyond receiving work instructions.
- Ability to organize work, work independently with minimal supervision, and remain attentive to details.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work assignments.
- Keep the Maintenance Supervisor informed of problems, repair needs, and grounds-related priorities.
- Other groundskeeping and related duties assigned.
Terms of Employment
- This is a year-round position - 260 days/year
- The work schedule will be five days per week, 8.0 hrs./day
- Rate of pay is $31.49/hour for the first six months (2025-2026 entry level) and $31.73/hour thereafter
- Benefits in accordance with the SEBB/Health Care Authority (Medical, Dental, Vision, LTD, Life insurance)
- For qualifying positions, employees are offered enrollment with the Washington State Retirement Plan
