    Primary Purpose:

    Work with grounds foreman to create and schedule them for mowing, irrigation, fertilization, aeration, over seeding and top dress all school grounds. Perform and oversee daily activities of grounds operations and schedules. Ensure safe, neat and attractive district wide grounds.

    Qualifications:

    Education/Certification:

    High School Diploma

    Valid Texas driver's license

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    Ability to read and understand written instructions

    Ability to communicate (verbally)

    Ability to operate tractor and landscaping equipment

    Ability to operate riding or power mower, power tools, and hand tools

    Experience:

    Three years' grounds maintenance work or related

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:

    Oversee and perform:

    1. Mow, edge and detail weekly or according to season schedule, temperature and rainfall for Areas 1, 2, and 31.
    2. Hybrid Bermuda grass 0.5" - 1.5"
    3. Common Bermuda grass 1.0" 1.5"
    4. Annual Ryegrass 1.0" 2.0"
    5. Watering according to season and schedule
    6. Visual assessment for irrigation needs
    7. Soil type and natural rain fall
    8. Fertilizing
    9. Schedule soil testing to determine fertilizing needs
    10. Aeration
    11. Schedule Soil testing to determine aerating needs
    12. Weed Control
    13. Schedule soil testing to determine proper weed control
    14. Edging and trimming on all
    15. Asses the direction for edging need for best visual look
    16. Develop and maintain records of mowing, irrigation, fertilizing, and aerating audit report per field.
    17. Create an annual schedule for all athletic field maintenance.
    18. Coordinate mowing schedule with crews on all athletic fields.
    19. Problem-solving skills and sound judgement.
    20. Ability to effectively communicate orally, in writing and electronically.
    21. Ability to understand and apply District policies and procedures.
    22. Knowledge of plants ornamental species, weeds and other plant species.
    23. Knowledge and ability to maintain sprinkler systems.
    24. Make sure proper crews are scheduled to work all CISD games.
    25. Make sure all facilities are cleaned and maintained before and after games played.
    26. Supervise and perform stadium grounds cleaning after games.
    27. Secure all gates and doors in and around all athletic fields when games are completed.
    28. Shutdown stadium lighting and building lighting after games have finished.
    29. Transport and stock fuel for mowers and trimmers used for the stadium.
    30. Inventory and order accordingly supplies needed to perform maintenance.
    31. Operates tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.
    32. Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
    33. Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and reports any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
    34. Make sure all vehicle, equipment and tools kept in safe operating condition.
    35. Inspects and adjusts tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and performs preventative maintenance as needed.
    36. Transports workers and equipment to work sites throughout the district.
    37. Performs other assigned duties as may be required by supervisor.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Supervises school groundskeepers

    Equipment Used:

    Tractor and mower, riding and power mower, gas-powered weed trimmer, blower, edger, sprayer, striping machine, garden and hand tools, posthole auger, aerator. Light truck or van.

    Working Conditions:

    Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

    Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work outside and around moving objects or vehicles. Exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals (herbicides and fertilizer), and loud noises. Frequent districtwide travel.
