Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Performs with the assistance of inmate laborers, work in providing maintenance and repair to grounds at the Kansas State Fair, which includes but is not limited to: Care of annual and perennial shrubs/trees/flowers-pruning, watering, mulching, weeding (using hand tools or chemical control), chemical application for insects and diseases, fertilizing, preparing seed beds, planting, and transplanting; care of grass and lawn areasleaf removal, mowing, trimming, watering with sprinklers hoses, or automatic systems, planting by preparing soil, grading, backfilling, sodding, sprigging, seeding or over seeding, fertilizing, aerating, spraying for weeds, insects, and diseases; snow removal in the winter, year-round and repairs as needed.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

operation and maintenance of equipment necessary to carry out above, such as trucks, mowers, tractors, trimmers, edger's, chain saws, sprayers, graders, jack hammers, skid-loader and other equipment that may be necessary in landscaping and grass and lawn care. This is accomplished by training the inmate labor on the proper operation, safety, and maintenance procedures for each piece of equipment used, with results based on daily checks to ensure equipment is running proper and free of dents, etc.

Qualifications

Education: diploma or equivalent

Minimum Qualifications:

Operating equipment needed to prepare grounds and facilities (Tractors, skid-loaders, graders, electrical tools, etc.); repair of facilities, fixtures and/or equipment and use of equipment/tools needed
