Job Title Maintenance & Custodial Technician - Student Housing - WB - Level 12 Job Description
This position provides maintenance and custodial services for college buildings and grounds. Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and general maintenance duties related to electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry (rough and finish, as well as, painting), custodial, and groundskeeping functions. Assist with snow removal, lawn care, and emergency maintenance as needed.
This is a full-time position with an hourly wage of $24.00. Benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance, $50,000 life insurance, long-term disability, paid sick leave, paid vacation, paid spring and holiday breaks and participation in IPERS or TIAA retirement plan.
This position will work 7:00 am - 3:30 pm Monday thru Friday.
Terms of employment are per bargaining agreement between SCC Board of Trustees and the SCCESA, employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees. Upholds college policies and procedures and supports and participates in college-wide initiatives. Actively promotes a positive image for the college district. Essential Duties Summary
RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Custodial and Facilities Support.
Provide custodial services for dormitories and assigned campus buildings.
Maintain cleanliness, order, and safe conditions in all assigned areas.
B. Perform preventative maintenance tasks as outlined in the Physical Plant Maintenance Manual and other assigned maintenance programs.
C. Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on electrical systems and equipment.
D. Troubleshoot and perform maintenance on plumbing systems and equipment.
E. Troubleshoot and perform maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, including pneumatic and digital controls.
F. Perform periodic and emergency maintenance on college gas- and diesel-powered equipment.
G. Perform carpentry, painting, concrete, welding, and general repair work as assigned.
H. Assist with custodial duties, snow and ice removal, lawn care, landscaping, and maintenance of parking and hard surface areas.
I. Operate and monitor the campus Energy Management System, including scheduling room and zone use.
J. Maintain and care for maintenance and groundskeeping equipment.
K. Complete and maintain required maintenance reports, records, and documentation through the College's maintenance tracking software (SchoolDude)
L. Communicate equipment problems and maintenance needs promptly to supervisors and other staff.
M. Promote safe facility conditions and comply with all institutional safety procedures and standards.
N. Maintain clean and organized work areas, including proper storage of tools and equipment after use.
O. Learn and remain current on institutional policies, procedures, and applicable governmental regulations.
P. Assist other maintenance staff and departments as needed.
Q. Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or Director of Facilities.
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:
A. Work-study student/Co-workers if help needed.
B. Subcontractors/vendors/etc. working in and around dorm buildings.
Required Qualifications
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent required.
Qualifications and Experience:
A. Skill in:
General custodial procedures and practices.
General building maintenance procedures and practices.
Preventative maintenance procedures.
Ground and lawn maintenance.
Heating and air conditioning systems operation and maintenance.
Plumbing maintenance and repair.
Basic electrical troubleshooting and repair.
Work safety procedures and safe equipment operation.
Routine vehicle and equipment maintenance.
Blueprint reading
B. Knowledge of:
Preventative maintenance practices and physical plant equipment.
Building heating and cooling systems.
General cleaning and custodial procedures.
HVAC control systems.
Safe work practices and safety standards.
C. Ability to:
Work independently with limited supervision.
Follow written and verbal directions.
Complete assigned tasks in a timely and professional manner, including cleanup.
Demonstrate initiative in identifying and completing needed maintenance.
Communicate effectively with staff regarding maintenance issues and equipment deficiencies.
Direct the work of others when needed.
Climb ladders and work in elevated
Operate the following equipment safely and effectively:
a. Pick-up truck.
b. Forklift.
c. Tractor.
d. Hand tools.
e. Power tools.
f. Mowing and snow removal equipment.
LICENCE/CERTIFICATION:
A. Hold valid commercial driver's license for vehicles up to 31,000 lbs. or able to obtain one within 12 months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Qualifications and Experience:
Three (3) years of compatible building maintenance or related experience preferred.
Education:
Secondary or post secondary level maintenance training preferred.
Physical Demands
A. Ability to lift 80 lbs.
B. Mobility required.
C. Able to climb ladders and work in high places.
