General Statement of Duties
The primary responsibility for an employee in this position is landscape installation and maintenance within the grounds of the Arboretum and Gardens at Tanglewood Park. Employee will report directly to the Director of the Arboretum (Forsyth County Horticulture Agent) and ultimately the County Extension Director. This employee will assist with oversight of volunteers in the garden.
Employee will assist with projects and set up for events for all areas of the Arboretum. Work will vary seasonally. Knowledge and experience in horticulture, particularly with herbaceous and woody ornamentals, is desired.

Distinguishing Features
Ability to schedule work hours to include occasional staff meetings, Department events, training (as determined by the Director of the Arboretum) and interfacing with staff in the Department to promote events held in the Arboretum.
An employee in this position must be willing to work outside year round. Employee should be self-motivated and able to complete tasks and projects independently.
Knowledge of horticulture, including planting, identification, pruning, and other maintenance of woody and herbaceous ornamentals, is highly desired.
Must have ability to lift 50 lbs. occasionally, and 10-25 lbs. frequently.
Ability to operate small equipment, including weed eater, blower, pruning shears, mowers, etc.
Ability to service and maintain small equipment, and load and unload equipment.
Employee will regularly interact with volunteers, who assist with maintenance. Employee will also interact with members of the public who visit the gardens. Experience working with volunteers and serving the public is preferred.
24 hour a week position
Minimum Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or GED and one year experience in basic building or grounds maintenance work.
A valid driver's license is required.
Must have demonstrated ability to safely operate small to medium motorized equipment.
An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered for minimum qualification requirements.
Must be able to obtain a pesticide applicators license after employment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assists with outdoor activities such as mowing lawns; trimming shrubs and trees; landscaping, planting, fertilizing, and spraying lawns, shrubs, flowers, and trees; and removing leaves.
Removes snow and ice from county parking lots and sidewalks.
Maintains mowers and other small equipment and tools.
Performs related work as required.
Maintaining a specific license such as a driver's license in good standing, without a lapse or loss of a privilege to drive in compliance with North Carolina law, and in compliance with applicable DOT standards for commercial motor vehicle drivers if required to perform the duties assigned to the position.
