Overview

Thompson Hospitality Facilities is seeking motivated and dependable Seasonal Labor – Grounds Staff to support the maintenance and appearance of outdoor campus spaces at Lincoln University . This seasonal position assists with landscaping, grounds maintenance, campus beautification, and seasonal cleanup efforts to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, staying physically active, and contributing to the overall appearance and upkeep of a vibrant university campus.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with general grounds maintenance including litter removal, sweeping, raking, and debris cleanup
  • Support lawn care operations including mowing, trimming, edging, and weed control
  • Assist with seasonal landscaping projects such as planting flowers, mulching, watering, and maintaining garden beds
  • Perform leaf removal, storm cleanup, and seasonal campus preparation activities
  • Help maintain sidewalks, parking lots, athletic fields, entrances, and other outdoor areas
  • Operate basic landscaping tools and equipment including rakes, shovels, blowers, wheelbarrows, and trimmers
  • Load, unload, and transport landscaping materials, tools, and supplies throughout campus
  • Assist with event setup and breakdown for outdoor campus activities and special events
  • Follow all workplace safety procedures and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Report safety concerns, damaged equipment, or maintenance issues to supervisors promptly
  • Support additional grounds and facilities operations as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous landscaping, groundskeeping, general labor, or outdoor maintenance experience preferred but not required
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and positive attitude required
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Willingness to work outdoors in changing weather conditions
Preferred Skills
  • Basic familiarity with landscaping tools and grounds maintenance practices
  • Experience working in outdoor labor or campus environments
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks safely and efficiently
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining campus appearance
  • Flexibility to support changing operational and seasonal needs
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision when needed
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods throughout the shift
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds or more
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach regularly throughout the workday
  • Must be able to work outdoors for extended periods in heat, cold, rain, humidity, and other varying weather conditions
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks including raking, shoveling, lifting, digging, sweeping, and carrying materials
  • Ability to safely operate basic groundskeeping equipment and hand tools
  • Manual dexterity and hand strength sufficient for landscaping and maintenance work
  • Ability to traverse uneven terrain, grassy areas, hills, sidewalks, and outdoor campus surfaces safely
  • Visual and auditory ability to recognize hazards, follow instructions, and respond to safety warnings
Work Environment
  • Outdoor university campus environment at Lincoln University
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, landscaping debris, dust, pollen, noise, and outdoor equipment
  • Fast-paced seasonal work environment with changing priorities based on campus needs and weather conditions
  • Work may require early mornings, weekends, holidays, or overtime during peak seasonal periods
  • Responsibilities may involve working across multiple campus locations and outdoor spaces
