Forklift Operator Job Description The Forklift Operator safely operates forklifts to move lumber products throughout the facility and supports a variety of material handling activities, including loading, unloading, staging, and pulling orders. The role also includes preparing products for shipment through banding, wrapping, labeling, and taping materials while maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient work area. Success in this position requires strong teamwork, attention to detail, reliable task completion, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service to internal and external customers. Responsibilities Safely operate sit-down forklifts to transport lumber products throughout the facility. Load and unload trucks using forklifts and pallet jacks, ensuring materials move efficiently and safely. Stage, pick, and pull orders accurately according to production and shipping requirements. Perform general labor tasks related to material handling, including organizing and moving inventory as needed. Prepare products for shipment by banding, wrapping, labeling, and taping materials to specified standards. Use basic mathematical and computer skills to work with a computer-automated system for measuring lumber products. Maintain accurate inventory handling while loading, unloading, and staging materials. Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of safety hazards throughout the shift. Work collaboratively with team members to meet daily production and shipping goals. Follow all safety policies and procedures when operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment. Support minimal outdoor work when loading and unloading trucks and then moving materials indoors. Adapt to changing production needs and support overtime or schedule adjustments when required to meet weekly production demands. Essential Skills Prior forklift operating experience. Experience using a sit-down forklift in a warehouse or manufacturing environment. Ability to perform general labor tasks related to material handling, picking, and packing. Basic mathematical skills to measure and verify lumber products. Basic computer skills to work with a computer-automated measuring system. Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate order pulling, labeling, and inventory handling. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs as part of daily material handling activities. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow directions accurately. Commitment to working safely and following established safety procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Forklift license or certification is preferred, with training available for the right candidate. Experience using pallet jacks for loading and unloading materials. Experience in inventory handling, order picking, and packing in a warehouse or distribution environment. Comfort working with computer-automated systems for measurement and tracking. Work involves operating sit-down forklifts and pallet jacks, handling lumber products, and working with a computer-automated system. The schedule may require flexibility and occasional additional hours depending on weekly production needs. The environment emphasizes safety, teamwork, and maintaining a clean and organized facility. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Farmington, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
