United Ag & Turf NE serves customers in a variety of industries such as commercial, construction, agricultural, as well as consumers. United Ag & Turf strives for exceptional customer experience throughout all our locations and departments including parts, sales, service, and transportation. Purpose Independently performs complex diagnostics, service repairs and maintenance work on customer agricultural, compact construction, and turf equipment. May require some direction or guidance from the Service Manager, Service Advisor, or Shop Foreman. Supports the Service department in a professional, safe & timely manner. Responsibilities Performs diagnostics and repairs on John Deere equipment and technology Mentors Service Technician Trainees and Service Technicians Accountable for billable time and assigned work orders Responsible for complete and thorough documentation of diagnostics and repairs performed on work orders and on time submittal of information May participate in Service EDUCATE Training programs required for the development of skills and knowledge Operates and maintains vehicles, tools and equipment required to perform job responsibilities Maintains a clean work area and performs work in a neat and orderly fashion Follows all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments Maintains current knowledge of John Deere and competitive products Language Skills; Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates and percentages. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Experience, Education, Skills and Knowledge Experience performing service repairs; demonstrated experience consistently meeting performance metrics preferred Experience performing repairs and maintenance using special tools and equipment following Technical Manual procedures on machines of the Technician's specialty Experience with the mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems used in off road, construction, lawn, or heavy equipment Experience operating vehicles, tools, and equipment for diagnostic purposes Experience with basic computer functions; experience using Service ADVISOR or other computer based diagnostic repair tools preferred Experience working cooperatively in a team environment Experience communicating effectively verbally and in writing Must have good time management and computer skills. Must have an adequate toolset to perform job responsibilities High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required; Associates degree preferred Physical Effort: Service Technicians frequently stand for long periods of time, bend, lay, and crawl under to repair and service machines. They frequently lift parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted. They must be able to maneuver on/under heavy equipment and on agricultural/construction sites with irregular terrain. Service technicians must be able to operate a motor vehicle during both day and night as well. Occasionally, they will be required to sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision and color vision. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, type or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, and walk. Working Conditions: Service Technicians work around hazards such as electrical, mechanical, and power equipment. They frequently have risk of exposure to chemicals, used oil, spent antifreeze, parts cleaning solvent, volatile hydrocarbons, battery acid, etc. There is often times adverse weather conditions that they must occasionally work in. There is often mists, fumes, dusts, and non-continuous noises of varying sound levels and intensities that regularly happen in the shop as well. Travel: Shop technicians may travel periodically for training. Road technicians will travel within the region daily, and outside the region for training.
