BRIEF DESCRIPTION
To efficiently and accurately carry out the tasks associated with programming, operation, and maintenance of the Sports Complex, Splash Station, City Facilities, and Parks irrigation system(s).
Essential job functions are to efficiently and effectively maintain the irrigation system of the Sports Complex, City Facilities, and Parks. The Irrigation Technician is required to report any irregularities in turf quality to the Parks Superintendent.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves and controllers, and working knowledge of various types of pumps and pumping systems
- Knowledge of principles and practices of installing, repairing and maintaining irrigation systems
- Understanding of agronomy and turf grass science
- Knowledge of the safe and proper operation of equipment including safety standards to prevent hazards
- Knowledge of the safe and proper operation of motor vehicles including provisions of the Texas Motor Vehicle Code
- Sufficient skills to service and make minor repairs on equipment
- Must have some knowledge of aquatic facilities operations
- Sufficient knowledge of technical skills related to the irrigation/maintenance of a golf course
- Strong foundation of technical knowledge as evidenced through education, certifications, and relevant experience
- Ability to perform manual labor including use of hand tools and heavy equipment
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school graduate or equivalent and three (3) years of experience with irrigation systems; OR
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED
A Valid Professional Irrigation certification is preferred or ability to obtain within three (3) months of employment
A Valid Texas license for applications of pesticides and herbicides license or ability to obtain license within six (6) months of employment
A Valid Class C Texas driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND SAFETY HAZARDS
Primarily in an outdoor environment with the ability to operate indoors when needed. May be exposed to extreme heat and cold during summer and winter months.

Standard office equipment including multi-line telephone, computer, fax machine, copier, scanner, shredder, printer, etc.
Pickups, irrigation equipment, air tools, tree trimming tools, zero turn mowers, reel mowers, top dressers, aerifiers, field striping equipment, backhoe loader, skid steer loader, tractor, flex wing mower, bat wing mowers, push mower, utility vehicles, spray rig/applicator, air tools, chain saw, tree trimming tools, and weed eater, etc.
