Position Overview
Melrose Abbey Memorial Park is seeking an experienced, hands-on Cemetery Operations Supervisor. While our routine landscaping and mowing are handled by an outside contractor, our internal team is dedicated to the critical, highly sensitive work of interment services, facility maintenance, and grounds preservation.
In this role, you will be the operational anchor of the parkbalancing the daily management and scheduling of a 46 person crew with the technical, safety-first operation of a backhoe.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Supervision:
Manage, train, and schedule a dedicated crew of 46 field personnel.
Direct daily workflows, assign work orders, and conduct quality control checks on all completed tasks.
Ensure strict compliance with safety regulations (OSHA) and cemetery protocols, fostering a respectful and professional team environment.
Cemetery Operations & Burial Services:
Oversee and actively participate in the precise opening and closing of graves, mausoleums, and niches.
Execute the Interment Verification Process with 100% accuracy to ensure proper legal compliance and exact location mapping before any service begins.
Supervise and assist with the proper installation of headstones, flat markers, and monuments.
Facility, Irrigation & Equipment Maintenance:
Manage and troubleshoot complex commercial irrigation repairs, programming, and installation.
Oversee light facility repairs, routine building maintenance, and janitorial upkeep of the park buildings.
Ensure the crew properly maintains all park equipment, vehicles, and heavy machinery (Backhoe/Loader) to maximize operational longevity.
Requirements & Qualifications
Experience: 3+ years of direct experience in cemetery operations is required. Prior experience in a supervisory, team lead, or foreman role is highly preferred.
Machinery Skills: Must be a highly proficient and safe Backhoe and Loader Operator with specific experience digging in tight cemetery grids.
Administrative Skills: Ability to effectively manage digital or paper work orders, track schedules, and maintain meticulous verification records.
License: Must possess a valid Drivers License with a clean driving record.
Attributes: Exceptional attention to detail, strong leadership presence, and a professional, empathetic demeanor suited for a memorial park setting.
