Forklift Operator I (Lumber Yard - Hyster 180)
Job Summary
We are seeking a dependable and safety-focused Forklift Operator I to support operations in our lumber yard. This role is responsible for moving materials between inventory and production while operating heavy equipment, including a Hyster 180 forklift, to handle large lumber loads. The position plays a key role in maintaining efficient material flow and supporting production schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a Hyster 180 forklift to safely move lumber and materials throughout the yard and production areas
- Transport materials from inventory to production and return unused materials to storage
- Move in-process materials between workstations to maintain production flow
- Load, unload, band, wrap, label, and stage finished lumber products
- Transfer finished goods to the inventory yard or warehouse
- Assist production teams by supplying materials and helping resolve bottlenecks
- Perform daily pre-shift inspections of forklifts and equipment; report any issues
- Conduct basic preventive maintenance on forklifts and related equipment
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe lumber yard and inventory area
- Accurately complete production records and required documentation
- Follow all company safety standards, forklift operation procedures, and policies
- Participate in safety programs and continuous improvement initiatives
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Minimum of 9th grade education required; high school diploma or GED preferred
- Experience operating large forklifts (such as Hyster 180) in a lumber yard or outdoor environment preferred
- Forklift experience preferred; training and certification available
- Basic math and inventory skills are a plus
- Ability to successfully complete forklift certification
- Must be at least 18 years old
Pay
- $17.00 - $20.00 per hour, based on experience
