Are you passionate about maintaining beautiful, safe, and functional outdoor spaces? UPMC Hamot is seeking a dedicated and experienced Journeyman 1 - Groundskeeper to join our Facilities team. This full-time position offers a consistent Monday through Friday schedule from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with rotating weekends and holidays, and critical on-call responsibility during winter months for snow and ice management—supported by competitive on-call pay.

Ideal candidates will bring hands-on experience and, preferably, a valid Pennsylvania Pesticide/Fertilizer Applicator License. Your expertise will contribute to the upkeep of our hospital grounds, directly supporting the healing environment we offer to our patients, families, and staff.

Hired candidates will be placed in appropriate level of the career ladder based on experience, education, and leadership discretion.

Responsibilities:

• Perform proper care of landscape and grounds.
• Operate equipment including lawn care, power washers, and snow removal i.e. weed eaters, edgers, mowers, sprayers, hoes, shovels, hand tools, snowplows, snow blowers, motorized vehicles, etc., and related grounds equipment as required.
• Provide upkeep of grounds equipment, including cleaning, painting, and performing preventive maintenance and minor repairs to outdoor equipment, irrigation systems, furniture, outdoor structures, etc.
• Perform maintenance in the indoor/outdoor gardens and litter control as directed by supervisor.
• Assist with basic maintenance needs, as required, such as signage maintenance (installations, upgrades, cleaning, etc.), plumbing repairs to storm and drain areas, irrigation systems, rain conductors, etc. and outdoor lighting repair and re-lamping.
• Perform power-washing and maintenance of hard surface paved areas, parking areas, sidewalks, etc.
• Report outdoor campus safety concerns and aesthetic issues to supervisor in writing or electronic communication.
• Perform hardscape inspections as well as minor repairs.
• Design and build/install retaining walls, patios, etc.
• Perform all work following infection control procedures.
• Record personal work orders and submit hours to supervisor on a daily basis.
• Maintain clean and safe work area, equipment rooms, and shop areas.
• Perform any maintenance work required in which skills can be utilized.
