Responsibilities

On The Ringling's 66-acre grounds, this role regularly:

  • Maintains, plants/transplants, and waters trees, plants, shrubs, flowers, and grass as directed.
  • Operates equipment such as trimmers, hedgers, mowers, edgers, and sweepers.
  • Monitors and reports to supervisor disease/insect damage, weeds, irrigation, and necessary maintenance of equipment. Treats issues as directed by supervisor.

As needed this role:

  • Provides information about the plants to visitors and responds to questions.
  • Fertilizes plants, shrubs, trees and grass on a seasonal basis.
  • Performs other duties and assists with special events as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Completion of 9th grade education or higher.

  • Please note the minimum age is 18 years due to the need to drive golf carts and other state-owned equipment.

  • Ability to:

  • Lift/carry up to 50 pounds frequently

  • Climb ladders/use lifts

  • Walk significant distances

  • Work in extreme weather conditions.

  • Valid Driver's License or the ability to obtain prior to hire.

  • Driver's Permits are not allowable.

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant groundskeeping knowledge including:

  • Mowing
  • Edging
  • Planting
  • Leaf Blowing
  • Pruning/Trimming
  • Raking/Mulching

Ability to:

  • Work well with others to achieve common goals with teamwork and cooperation.
  • Remain calm and composed, even in stressful or challenging situations.
  • Communicate in a respectful and effective manner in-person, written, and over two-way radios.
  • Stay focused for long periods of time.
  • Work independently and as a team.

Anticipated Salary Range

The anticipated starting salary for this position is $33,408 and will be commensurate with experience and education.

  • This is a USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.
  • This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check to include fingerprinting.
