Senior Groundskeeper

Performs the general housekeep of park facilities, including picnic shelters, comfort stations, athletic fields, and turf areas; supervises seasonal laborers, volunteers, etc.; performs other duties as assigned.1. 2. Performs minor construction and maintenance of fences, playground equipment, roadways, and buildings to meet program standards;
3. Supervises seasonal laborers, volunteers, etc.;
4. Operates vehicles, motorized off-road equipment, and gasoline powered tools;
5. Performs limited operational safety checks;
6. Reports field work assignments and route work assignments, amount of work accomplished, and other work-related data;
7. Performs re-conditioning and general maintenance of athletic fields to include but not limited to aerating, seeding, fertilizing, and irrigating;
8. Performs other duties as assigned.1. Ability to gain working knowledge of St. Marys County Government policies and procedures;
2. Ability to safely operate various heavy equipment;
3. Knowledge of safety regulations and established procedures for operating motor vehicles and heavy equipment as well as for ensuring public safety;
4. Extensive knowledge of all aspects of ground maintenance;
5. Ability to supervise subordinate staff;
6. Basic math and language skills.1. High school diploma or G.E.D.;
2. Six months or more of related experience;
3. Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience.

Additional Requirements:
1. Must posses a valid Maryland Class A Restricted Commercial Drivers license or the ability to obtain one with 6 months from date of employment;
2. Must pass physical examination prior to employment.

Physical & Environmental Conditions:
Work requires constant physical effort including some lifting or handling of heavy tools or materials of 60 pounds or more in addition to driving heavy vehicles.

Work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress which require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g., extreme outdoor weather conditions.
