Reports To: Supervisor of Buildings & Grounds
Starting Date: June 2025
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience landscaping and/or field maintenance preferred.
- Knowledge of lawn maintenance including irrigation, seeding/fertilizing and mowing preferred.
- Knowledge of basic small motor repair preferred.
- Experienced utilizing field maintenance equipment and field maintenance techniques.
- Possesses understanding of general safety and hazardous materials training.
- Knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing (irrigation), fence and equipment repairs.
- Maintains a current Class D Delaware drivers license and able to drive district vehicles.
- Will be required to obtain certification for using insecticides, pesticides, herbicides and/or fertilizer application.
- Capable of working in varying work environments and temperatures.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Operate tractors and lawn maintenance equipment on a regular basis.
- Ensure that athletic fields are prepared each day for practice and/or competition play.
- Assists in performing grounds and landscaping jobs including, but not limited to, cutting grass, tree trimming, seeding and fertilizing, maintenance and marking of athletic fields.
- Assists with field maintenance in regard to irrigation systems and basic irrigation system repairs;
- Must be able to conduct ongoing program of general maintenance, preventative maintenance, and winterization of field maintenance and grounds equipment including upkeep and repair.
- Assists with a perpetual inventory system, including requisition of parts, materials, and supplies to ensure proper inventory supplies and controls.
- Assists with maintenance of all safety inspection records and associated field reports as required including daily and seasonal inspection reports, work activity reports, cost reports, and field recommendations.
- Completes cyclical projects and additional tasks that reflect the nature of the work assignment.
- Remain on school premises during school hours and non-school hours when the use of grounds or building has been authorized and attendance as required by the designated supervisors.
- Work closely with Athletic Director to monitor maintenance.
- Repetitive daily heavy lifting of up to 50 lbs. at heights of 3-4 feet.
- Climb a ladder up to 15 feet.
- Perform minor maintenance repairs and troubleshooting of equipment problems including motorized lawn equipment and outdoor tools.
- Perform custodial duties as assigned including but not limited to: scrubbing, dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, trash collection, etc...
- Move furniture and support special events as assigned.
- Work as part of a groundskeeping team.
- Communicate daily in a professional manner.
- Respond to district-wide custodial duties as required by Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds (ie: snow removal).
- Performs other related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor (including building maintenance and cleaning).
Salary and Benefits: Salary range and benefits are commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with Board of Education Policy.
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Boards policy on evaluation of personnel.
