Maintenance II - Groundskeeper - District Operations
This is an 8 hour/day, 12 month position under the Classified Bargaining Agreement. The start date is as soon as possible.
DEFINITION
Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, performs a variety of tasks in the care and maintenance of the grounds, athletic fields and related equipment, and performs related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This position is distinguished from the Groundskeeper I because more experience and expertise is required. Additional requirements include selection of landscape plants and material, knowledge of common plant and turf diseases and working knowledge of artificial turf care and maintenance. With supervision, this position is responsible for the overall care and upkeep of the district grounds. Supervision of other temporary grounds personnel may be required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Performs all duties listed in the Groundskeeper I job description; assumes responsibility for the overall quality of the grounds throughout the district, performs routine repairs to playground equipment; analyzes and recommend solutions for grass and plant growth problems; advises the Facilities Manager regarding lawn and plant care and other issues concerning grounds; and cares for and maintains assigned equipment and motor vehicles as required.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
- Operation of power equipment such as mowers, tractors, light trucks, sprayers, hedge shears, chainsaws, blowers and provide maintenance and inventory for same;
- Establishing and maintaining turf, both lawns and athletic fields;
- Knowledge of care and maintenance of artificial turf fields;
- Landscaping and suitable placement of plant materials;
- Application, storage, and safe use of all chemicals and pesticides;
- Common plant and turf diseases and insect pests and methods used in controlling them.
Ability to:
- Read, write, and follow oral and written instructions with little supervision;
- Lay out work and to estimate time, tools, and materials needed;
- Establish and maintain harmonious relationships with students, fellow employees, and the general public;
- Maintain confidentiality in all phases of work, i.e. records, meetings, etc.
- Ability to proficiently use appropriate computer applications for your assigned areas of responsibility.
- Routinely lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance;
- Complete all district required trainings.
License:
- Possession of a valid Oregon Operator’s license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
Experience:
- Three years experience in grounds, lawn care; landscaping, and experience with playground equipment
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent as required by Oregon Administrative Rules, Oregon Department of Education.
