With general supervision from the Parks Maintenance & Operation Supervisor, this mid-level position performs moderately complex work and is responsible for the supervision of work crews for the maintenance, repair and construction of parks, recreation facilities and other landscape areas. Plans, organizes projects, and directs personnel and equipment to accomplish assigned work. The Crew Leader has a moderate level of supervision, with a limited level of discretion and independent judgement. Essential Duties & Required Qualifications Leads and supervises others to complete assignments. May be assigned temporary staff when needed. Responsible for the Aquatic/Pool facility repairs and maintenance. Oversee all mowing operations and works with supervisor to create and follow schedules. Oversee and performs skilled and semi-skilled construction, maintenance and general labor work; duties will vary according to job assignment. Safely performs manual labor and operates a variety of tools and equipment, including but not limited to zero turn rotary mowers, handheld sprayers, tractors, aerification equipment, bobcat with attachments, backhoe and weed eater/edger, to maintain the City's grounds, facilities and ball fields as assigned. Responsible for ensuring that materials, tools and equipment are taken to the job site in an efficient and orderly manner and that tools and equipment are maintained in safe working conditions. Assists with the coordination of work crews performing activities according to the work schedule; monitors task completion; assures that all City policies are observed. Supervises subordinates and assists in the training and discipline of the department personnel. Assists with the training of subordinates to skillfully and safely operate hand tools. Utilizes specific software to complete daily logs and reports as required. Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work carried out; recognizes and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries. Works occasional weekends, holidays, evenings, and special events. Note: Certain events are mandatory for all Parks Maintenance Staff. Communicates effectively with Parks Maintenance & Operations Manager. Informs the Manager of daily task status, crew professionalism and any issues related to safety. Performs irrigation testing, repairs and maintenance. Artificial turf maintenance. Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience
High school graduate or its equivalent.
Minimum of 1.5 years of parks maintenance or related experience.
Must be able to work flexible work schedules and irregular hours including evenings, weekdays, weekends, and holidays on any assigned or scheduled shift.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Driver s License. Ability to obtain a Texas Driver s License within 90 days, according to state law.
Ability to obtain the following licenses within 90 days of employment: Non-Commercial
Pesticide Applicator License issued by the Texas Department of Agriculture.
Certified Pool Operator License (CPO).
Preferred Education and Experience
Two or more years of related experience.
Associate's degree or higher from two year-college or technical school.
Previous experience and knowledge of arboricultural and horticultural practices, operation of maintenance, and mowing.
Previous experience in welding, metal fabrication, masonry, painting, carpentry, concrete, plumbing, electrical and heavy equipment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Workers must follow safety procedures and know how to use safety equipment.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
