Do you have past landscape architecture/design/planning experience and looking to work on park and trail design projects? The Prince William County (PWC) Dept. of Parks and Recreation is seeking a temporary, part-time non-benefitted Landscape Architect/Planner Technician to assist with park and trail master plan and design projects. This position is perfect for someone wanting to gain experience in the public sector and park/trail planning, or for someone that may be in the process of finishing a degree or recently retired from the Landscape Architecture/Planning field and is looking for temporary, part-time employment. The PWC Dept. of Parks and Recreation currently owns/operates over 5,000 acres of parkland and has several upcoming master plan and trail design projects for which we need help. About This Role: The PWC Dept. of Parks and Recreation is seeking a Landscape Architect/Planner Technician who would like to assist the Department's Planning Team with projects that range from developing master plans for new parks, conducting feasibility studies for future facilities, planning and designing public hiking/walking trails, and conducting research associated with these projects. This position will report to the Department's Planning Manager and is a great learning opportunity for any current students of Landscape Architecture or Planning that are looking to build their resume, or a great part-time opportunity for someone with a background in either of these fields who wants to explore the public sector and/or learn more about park planning and design. The primary goal is to assist the current Team of one Landscape Architect and two Planners with pending park master plans, updating trail design standards, and conducting deed research for park development projects. The work schedule is flexible. A minimum of 20 hours per week is preferred, with up to 30 hours per week permissible.

Minimum Requirements: A High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Preferences:

The desired candidate will have:

  • At least 3 years of undergraduate coursework leading to a Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture or Planning.

  • An interest in gaining public sector experience as it relates to the planning and design of parks and trails.

  • Familiarity with InDesign, CAD, and/or GIS.

Special Requirements:

  • Valid Drivers License

  • Candidate acknowledges that this is a temporary, part-time non-benefitted position

Work Schedule: Core work hours are Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Work schedule will be flexible within these core hours. A minimum of 20 hours per week is desired, with up to 30 hours per week approved for this position.
