Utah Valley University is seeking a dedicated Groundskeeper to help maintain and enhance the beauty of our campus. Under the direction of the Director of Grounds, this position is responsible for planting, pruning, cultivating, and caring for trees, shrubs, lawns, and other landscaped areas. You will play a key role in creating a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors by preparing soil, fertilizing, watering, spraying, re-seeding, and ensuring the overall health of campus grounds.

This position is ideal for individuals who take pride in hands-on work, enjoy working outdoors, and have experience operating groundskeeping equipment such as riding lawn mowers and power edgers.   • Responsible for garbage pick-up.
  • Prepares greenhouse beds for bedding plants.
  • Performs mowing and trimming of campus lawns and landscaping.
  • Operates light and heavy tractors, trucks, and stationary equipment in performing assigned tasks. Assists in repairing mechanical equipment and makes emergency repairs to utility systems, lawn mowers, and facilities. Sharpens and repairs reels for proper cut and angle.
  • Maintains accurate and accessible records as assigned.
  • Assists the water master in sprinkler system operation, secondary water system, fountains, and pump stations. Repairs valves, sprinkler heads, and other components of the sprinkling systems.

Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate's degree and one year of related experience, OR any combination of job-related experience and education totaling three years.

Preferred Qualifications:

One and one-half years of experience related to the summary of duties is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

Must possess a valid Utah driver's license at the time of employment.Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of landscape gardening, including planting, transplanting, and pruning.

  • Knowledge of grade fertilizers and their application.

  • Knowledge of the mechanical operations and methods of repairing equipment.

Skills

  • Skills in fertilizing applications and methods.

  • Skills in planting, pruning, and landscape gardening.

  • Skills in minor repairs of landscaping and irrigation equipment.

Abilities

  • Ability to operate light trucks, tractors, and stationary equipment.

  • Ability to maintain accurate and accessible records.

  • Ability to maintain buildings and grounds with a minimum of supervision.

  • Must be able to expend arduous physical effort and to work in conditions that may involve some hazards and considerable discomfort.
