  • &nbsp&nbsp JOB SUMMARY: To inspire and prepare each and every scholar with the confidence, courage and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning by caring for and maintaining the school building, site and equipment.

    PRIMARY FUNCTION: Conduct and supervise the program for care and maintenance of the school building, site and equipment. Major emphasis will include both custodial and mechanical works, as well as supervisory responsibilities.

    ILLUSTRATED DUTIES: Accountable for responsibilities and duties associated with need to:

    Plant Maintenance and Grounds:

    • Take charge of all aspects of the physical operation of the building for which they are responsible.
    • Be responsible for the operation of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and all mechanical equipment in his/her building. To grease, oil and make any minor repairs that are needed. To report to the Coordinator, Building and Grounds, any major breakdown of equipment.
    • Prepare boiler water treatment and fuel oil delivery and consumption, vandalism, safety inspection reports.
    • Maintain and be responsible for all yard work to include watering, mowing, trim lawns, prune shrubs, trees, weeding, remove paper and debris from school yard and along fence lines.
    • Responsible for snow removal and keeping sidewalks free of ice.
    • Make building checks and send reports to Coordinator, Building and Grounds.
    • Meet with other building heads and supervisors to give/receive information.
    • Perform glove bag and mini enclosure asbestos repair as applicable.

    Leadership Responsibilities:

    • Schedule work assignments and assume responsibility for assignments being carried out as assigned.
    • Approve time cards.
    • Initiate and follow through with custodial staff the absentee reporting procedure.
    • Schedule work loads to have coverage during vacation time and scheduled activities.
    • Instruct new personnel in the performance of their duties.
    • Be responsible for proper and economical use of all supplies, tools and equipment assigned to a building. Perform routine maintenance of equipment.
    • See that all rules, regulations and policies governing safety and the use of facilities are known by non-school groups using the building. Follow-up on any violations.
    • Order and maintain inventory of custodial and maintenance supplies.
    • Conduct periodic safety inspections of the building, grounds, and equipment.
    • Conduct evaluations on all building level custodians and make recommendations to the Coordinator, Custodial Services, relative to evaluations.
    • Set up and take down equipment, e.g., tables, chairs, benches, athletic equipment.
    • Dust mop and sweep floors.
    • Unload groceries/custodial supplies and stack in appropriate place; remove heavy food items from freezer.
    • Pick up/deliver mail bags to and from main area.
    • To perform other duties as required or directed by appropriate supervisors.

    RELATIONSHIPS:
    • REPORTS TO: Building principal in the day to day operation. Coordinators, Building and Grounds, Custodial Services for technical supervision and implementing of the district's policies and procedures.
    • SUPERVISES: Custodial personnel assigned to the building.
    • WORKS WITH: Teachers and other building personnel. The custodial staff, as members of the supporting services team, is expected to be responsive to reasonable requests of teachers, under guidelines of the principal. The relationship should be one of helpful cooperation.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High school graduate or equivalent.
    • Work experience in the maintenance area.
    • Training or experience in electrical/mechanical fields to operate all equipment.
    • First Class Boiler's License.
    • Supervisory experienced desired, but not required.

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES:

    • Ability to care for and repair facilities and equipment.
    • Ability to train, evaluate and direct personnel.
    • Ability to work with principal and building staff.
    • Ability to meet and respond effectively to student, staff and parent needs.
    • Ability to wear respirator (must pass physical-fit test).
    • Human Relations: Helping, taking instructions and exchanging information.

    Salary: Classification 6, $24.43 to $34.66 hourly
    Job type : Full-time, 260/261 days per year
