Position Summary:
This recruitment will be used to fill up to eight student technical positions for the OSU -North Willamette Research Center at Oregon State University ( OSU ).

The North Willamette Research and Extension Center is recruiting students who will assist field, landscape and facilities maintenance.

All positions are located at the North Willamette Research and Extension Center ( NWREC ), Oregon State University in Aurora, Oregon.

Maximum of 24 hours per week during school year/ 40 hours during school holidays and summer break.

Position Duties:
100% of duties will consist of mowing, pruning, planting, hoeing or weed pulling, painting and event staging and assist with minor building maintenance/repairs. May be asked to run errands to offsite locations.

Employee will also be expected to assist other research programs at NWREC when additional staffing is needed.

Research program related duties include berry picking/harvesting crops, weeding, hoeing, digging and mowing.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered full-time by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS ). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services ( OIS ), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications:
  • Perform assigned tasks without close supervision.
  • Capable of working outside and standing/walking for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs.
  • Students who are under 18 years old are required to have passed a tractor safety certification class prior to operating a tractor.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Maintain a positive and collegiate attitude.
  • Student employees (but not all employees) may be selected to drive to offsite locations, as needed, at the request of the farm manager.


Preferred (Special) Qualifications:
Experience with tractors (students over 18)

Working Conditions / Work Schedule:
  • Work typically begins at 7:00 am most days, with 6:00 am start on our busiest harvest days, and will generally be done by 3:30.
  • Occasionally we ask that students stay longer to finish a task, but work will not exceed 40 hours per week during the summer and 20 hours per week while school is in session.
  • Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Positions are open from May/June through Aug/Sept depending on school schedules, availability, and harvest schedule.
  • Limited positions may also be available during school breaks throughout the year.
